Cleaning Fuel Tank

   / Cleaning Fuel Tank #11
A good parts store usually carries a kit to clean, strip and seal gas tanks. It is a time consuming process. I have taken small tanks to a radiator shop to be cleaned and resealed. That seemed pretty expensive also. I tried what you suggested with a gas tank on a two ton truck by pressure washing it clean. It didn't last with the gas sloshing around and the tank rusting even adding an extra gas filter couldn't stop trash getting to the carb.

Guess I misspelled that-- it's "Kreem." There's apparently another product by KBS Coatings that works as well. Hope this helps--

Hi everyone, new here, first post.....
I've cleaned quite a few motorcycle tanks with BB's and diesel fuel, shake it and let it soak.....do this several times and see where your at.

Thanks everyone. I used various nuts and bolts, and shook the **** outta the tank. Seemed to get most the crap out of it. I cleaned the carb, changed the filter, but now cant get spark. Checked the plug it seems fine in another engine. Always something.

Welcome Crash&burn! As far as no spark cycle that on and off switch several times to see if that cleans the contacts. Or see if the wire has popped off of the switch. Those Honda motors are usually more reliable than most other small engines.

Check the low oil sensor, I have had the same problem with a Honda 5.5 and right now I can't seem to remember if it was actually low oil or if it was just a loose wire on the sensor but either way, check it out.

Also, if you cant get the tank back into the condition you want, check ebay, I frequently see the Chinese Honda clone engine tanks for sale there and they usually go for $10-$15.00, they are interchangeable.

Checked the switch, seems fine. Cant find low oil shut off switch (maybe internal?). going to pull off the cover and have a look at the condition of the coil tonight.

I pulled the coil off and cleaned up the magnets. Also tried to clean flywheel as best I could, managed to get the starting magnet of the flywheel quite clean using a wire brush. -> Still no spark

Anyone know the air gap between the coil and the flywheel? Or is the air gap suppose to be between the coil magnets and magnet on the flywheel?
