I have an old New Holland Manure spreader that was sitting outside unused for many years. I have gotten the PTO shaft apart so it will telescope now. A friend of mine used his torch on the PTO locking pin so it moves now. The problem is the splines inside the coupler are just too rusted to get it to slide onto the PTO shaft. Any suggestions on cleaning up the splines or do I need to get a new yoke?

Try a little WD-40 and wire brush small enough to get inside the coupler. When you think you have brushed long enough, brush a little long. Keep at it. Might make it work.

Soaking stuff in diesel fuel with a little oil has worked for me.
Might spray with penetrating oil first and you can get some pretty nasty parts to function.

A little phosphoric acid, a small triangle file and small round file and the coupler now fits on the PTO shaft nicely. Now I have to figure out how to put the u-joint back together.
