Thanks Soundguy. I guess I didn't realize that you could leave it in there and that it's not toxic. That helps my problem. Will do.

Laminarman,

This type of pump is also known as a Peristaltic pump. They have many uses in Medical and Laboratory fields as well. I built a 3 point sprayer earlier this year and this is what I did:

I plumbed the inlet and outlet of the pump with about 18 inches of hose each. Make sure the inlet is SUCTION hose so it will not collapse. I then put Camlock fittings on each of the hoses and on the mating ends going to the sprayer. The Camlock connections are very quick to connect and disconnect and they seal well with a replacable washer/gasket. To make sure I don't hook it up wrong, I made the connections so that it only hooks up one way. In other words the Inlet as a female camlock and the Outlet has a Male. This has a second benefit: When not in use, I store the pump inside the barn as it is the most expensive piece. Since I have male and female connections on the pump hoses, I can connect them together for storage in a loop to keep out dirt and hold in the antifreeze. This also works for the sprayer that lives outside in the weather, just connect the two camlocks together to keep out dirt, insects and anything else that might get in there.

You can find Cam lock fittings at most Ag stores such as Agri Supply or TSC. They come in many configurations such as Barbed to Camlock, Male pipe thread to Camlock, or Female pipe thread to Camlock.

Good Luck!

Vinnie Cam-Lock fittings are a real good idea and I haden't even considered them. They are inexpensive and as you say quick. Think I'll use this idea as I assemble a sprayer for our own use. Thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Awesome idea, awesome. Thanks. I'm heading to TSC tonight to pick up some fittings. Were you here I'd buy you a beer. Thanks again. Why didn't I think of them?

Since you guys like the camlock idea, I'll tell you about the other thing I did. I bought one extra camlock fitting to mate with the inlet camlock of the pump. I connected it to a brass garden hose adapter fitting so that it is 3/4 garden hose female on one side and camlock on the other. When I am done spraying, I disconnect the inlet to the pump (coming from the tank) and attach the garden hose with the adapter. I then turn on the hose and engage the pump to flush the pump, direction valve, hoses and nozzle tips with continuous FRESH water.

I am new to this forum and have read a lot of good ideas, so its nice to be able to pass one along now and then.

Good Luck and happy spraying.

Brass garden hose quick couplers are a great invention. I used them on my water hose, water filter, etc. in my RV days, and now I have them on all my garden hoses, outside faucets, sprinklers, nozzles, etc. They aren't cheap, but they sure are quick, easy, and handy and last a long time.

Do make sure you get the non toxic stuff.. there is plenty of etheyl stuff out there, and don't get the rv water tank AF.. it's non toxic.. but not all have the water pump lube.. like automotive propyl based AF does..

TSC recommended I run Nutra-Sol though the system whenever I was finished with a project. They said it would protect the pump as well as the rubber from anything I sprayed. Was a little expensive. But the sprayer works like new everytime I hook up on it.

I was looking at that Nutri-Sol yesterday when we went to pick up some vegetable plants for the garden. The stuff I saw was 5 bucks a quart and I thought to myself why go to the extra expense when a good clear water rinse and a shot of anti-freeze will do the very same thing.

Got to tractor supply last night. Only camlock fittings they had were apparently made for earth movers or something, they were HUGE. Our TSC sucks here. Couldn't find them at any big box retailer (big suprise, huh). Looks like I'm mail ordering them.
