So folks, my fairly new to me 2310 engine looks like it could use a good cleaning. There are no major oil leaks that I can find. No minor ones either for that matter. But the engine is oily and the oil makes dirt stick. It seems like the oil is diesel oil, not motor oil. Anyway, I bought some Gunk engine cleaner and I wanna use it to clean the engine. My plan is to soak the engine with the cleaner and then rinse it all off with hot water. Is this a good idea? Anything I should watch out for or avoid doing?
Thanks,
Eric

Proper precautions like looking out for open filler and air holes, and not using any kind of pressure washer or nozzle, and I don't see any more problem than any other engine.

Wrap the alternator in a plastic bag! There's not much else that's delicate.

I assume the regulator is solid-state. I trashed the original old-school regulator on mine with water, I didn't know there were holes on the underside.

Thanks folks. I now have a pretty clean engine and the alternator still works.
