Just got finished brush hogging about a 1/2 acre of land, and now there is shredded brush on the ground. Any suggestions on how to rake this up using the tractor? Ideally I'd like to move all the shreddings and pieces of stalks and trunks into a pile that I can then use my chipper/shredder on to make some more mulch to use for soil amendment.

I'd brushhog it again with the cutter set to a lower height now that you have found all the rocks and other obstacles. If yuo cut it agin it will mulch up well.

The second step is patience /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Give it a couple of weeks and grass will start to grow nice, it works for me.

Do you do the same thing with heavy grass, etc. laying on pasture? I get a lot of mat after cutting pasture...

Thanks,

Jack

When I did some unkept land I got a nasty looking brown mat. A little time, some sun and rain and a month or so later I now have decent grass. If I stay on top of it by next year it should look like nice pasture.

In the horse pastures the areas the horse didn't get to were pretty long when I got the tractor. After about 4 cuttings that aree came back too.

OK--thanks Lawman...my problem's the same...only rain kept me from cutting. My farmer neighbor suggested running over it again with a lawnmower...either way, it's a double cut, but I guess that's better than trying to rake it up and collect it.

Unless you are into extensive labor, or expensive machinery, (3ph rake), I would just keep brush hogging it and it will take care of itself.

Thanks for the advice. Seems to work fine if I rough cut it at highest 3ph setting, and then drop it lower and cut again (and again). Eventually all the brush has been shattered pretty well and is kind of a coarse mulch.
