Thanks everyone...I did look into the root rake grapple, i'll bet that would work out nice. I would need to get some hoses to the front and a 3 function valve plus the attachment so now we would be up well over 2k for a onetime clean up!!! Guess I will look for a used york rake or field cultivator on craigslist, if I can't find one it looks like my helper and I will be doing a lot of bending and picking. I would just leave it like some have suggested but I am thinking of selling (paying taxes on this lot for 4 years) and would like it to look a little better.

You may be able to rent a grapple and rake at the same time and get a deal. Do you have a rear remote?

Why not try an old fashion dump rake for hay. It would allow you to at least windrow your slash, thereby reducing some of the labor in cleaning the lot up.

Lightweight CUT tractors and implements just are NOT the greatest cleanup tools for slash, trees and stumps. They are not really effective....plus the slash beats the heck out of your tractor and implements.

For me.....a FEL grapple and a landscape rake have been OK....but it takes alot of technique to get the job done. I also use a stump grinder to get the stumps out. In fact after a burn-down with round-up.....the stump grinder comes in next. THEN....the brush and limb cleaning goes more smoothly with the tools mentioned above. Still....lotsa hand work. :(

I do have hydraulics to the back for the sub frame back hoe.

Ended up renting a York rake w/wheels from the equipment center....my first time using a 3 point hitch attchment and I think it did a great job. It was an older York rake (7') and it was heavy!! Worked very well, better than I thought it would (best $36.00 I ever spent!!!!). I still have the front area to do but that will be for another day. I liked that rake so much I am going to keep my eye out for one. The York really impressed me, it was really beefy. Nothing like the other manufacturers that I have seen on craigslist or other websites. Any thoughs on other manufactures I should be looking at?

This site has not changed since I used to frequent it 12 years ago...such a wealth of knowledge and help. Thanks to all, your help is greatly appreciated!

ilucas,
You can inquire about the York rake at the rental store as most of these outfits prefer to rotate their tools and inventory frequently. I have bought several used tools from rental yards with good success.

You can search for used rental equipment on sunbelt and united rentals website.
