About the pics, use your photo software and resize the pic first. Make the longest side about 800 pixels. Then save the new size and see if you are then under the 100k. I'm not familiar with all the different software available, but resizing the size first is how I do it.
I've been on other sites which do not allow a file larger than 30k, and the longest side no more than 400 pixels. But the pics can still be good ones of reasonable size.

If you have windows XP there is a free windows re-sizer that will take the pics down to under 100k & they will still be big. I think it is on the windows XP website. I found it here's the link Power tools

I'd get rid of all the Elm trees in favor of native hardwoods like oak,hickory,walnut ECT .You want to watch clearing too much to fast and creating erosion problems . Most of the trails in Missouri for walking use bark to keep the weeds down.
