Just a word of caution, if you want to adapt a circular saw blade, make sure it's a NON carbide tip. Carbide tips are very brittle, and will break off when they touch the slightest stone or even dirt. It's not fun picking a carbide tooth out of your shins (or worse). Don't ask me how I know.

In the early 1980s my wife and I cut hundreds of thousands if not millions of a type of pine in Australia with a Stihll brushcutter and fine toothed blades. We had a few hundred acres of seeded saplings from numerous old trees that had been left when the land was cleared. They were as thick as wheat in some places. The cutter easily dealt with 3" stuff as long as the blade was kept sharp. Anything up to 2" and I used it like a very slow moving scythe. They still make them. It was possible to buy the attachment drive and blade head to fit onto Stihll chainsaws so that you only needed one power unit for a combined chainsaw/brushcutter, but I do not know if that is still the situation.

That first picture is actually a brush mower for ditches, etc. It should cut down up to 4 in trees. A hyd motor turning a 3 or 4 bld disk. In the second picture, two jointed grab the tree, and you lift the tree out of the ground.
