I was working on my golf cart. I think it was adjusting the brakes which yiu have to pull the rim off to do. I went to test drive and it was clunking around and sounded like a bad hub or bearings. Then looked and was like dang all I did was barely tighten them by finger. Not even finger tight the rim was wallop ing around!!! Tightened it down, went away ;-)

pesky golf cart wheels! They will do that. run themselves loose like that as soon as you turn your back.

Golf is a fickle mistress!

I will ensure the right rear wheel is tightened. I could only hope it's that simple.

Ha, I don't play golf anymore, haven't since I was about 18, 17 years ago. This is lifted golf cart for play and fun and hunting. Riding around town , caring stuff in the yard and taking me to the woods (battery).

Also, I have seen tight lug nuts that had cracks in the wheel making that sound. Maybe the nuts were loose at some point is what I am thinking.

I did what all of you recommended and the good news is that the noise is no longer there. Thanks for your help.

Did you check for any cracks in the wheel or elongated holes?

And if you didn't crack or egg out the wheels, count yourself lucky. Check all of the wheel lug nut/bolt torques, and then do it again in 25 hours, and then again in 50 hours, Then again every 100. If all of them were good, from the get go, then you can get by with the every 100.

Like this. One of the oddities of this 1980 Yanmar with some 'deferred maintenance' issues when I bought it was both front wheels cracked, welded, cracked again. One of those wheels has "$20.00" on it, so a replacement.

I bought replacement wheels as soon as I located them and mounted one when I had to repair a flat. I'm still running one of these. It just works. (photo).

I can't imagine what a previous owner did to bust up wheels like that. I've never had a problem despite visible cracks.

Someday I'll buy new front tires, have both my replacement wheels in use, and finally look respectable. :D
