Scott - I'm going to lovely Salem, beautiful country in that area for sure.

Watch out on the speed limit in Salem on 22 also, they've done seatbelt checks in the center of town there as well. It seems that they take the 30mph limit in most of the villages pretty seriously.

Hey!!! Watch it Scott!!! I live in Cambridge, and that's how our village gets a lot of it's budget!!

Actually, I don't live in the village, we have a farm just south of the village. Cambridge is one of the most beautiful places in the USA. We have great farmland, and we're a farming community. My wife and I have a goat dairy, plus we raise heritage breed pigs, free range chickens, and we're just starting to raise sheep. Practically everyone knows everyone, and we all stick together. If someone has a problem, everyone comes to their aid. It's a great place to live!!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hey Rich,
One more thing, if you have ever driven through the north side of the village, have you ever noticed two 55 mph signs within a few hundred feet of each other? The night I came through there I swear the first sign was missing and I didnt notice it until too late /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Or is that a highly kept secret in the village /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif In any event, the constable was wedged in those storage buildings with the radar! Always wondered about that /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I go through that part of Route 22 a few times each week, and I never noticed two 55 MOH signs. Are you sure about that?

The storage buildings are one hiding place, and another is the police station which is right on Route 22 now. I've been stopped a few times, and just got off with a warning, since I'm a local farmer, and I know all of the cops, except one new one. My wife was driving several months ago, and she got stopped, I leaned towards the window to say hello to whoever stopped her, and I was surprised by a brand new, very young Cambridge cop. He wasn't interested that we were local, and he gave my wife a ticket. We have so little crime around here, that when a local person gets a speeding ticket, it actually makes the papers. A few days later, all of our friends were calling to tease my wife about it. She wasn't amused. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Rich,
Im pretty sure, the next time I go through there I will be paying close attention /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Im thinkin the northernmost sign is across the street from that garage. Just thinkin here, the first is just after those storage buildings, maybe 400 or 500 ft before. The night I got nailed I couldnt have been more than 200 ft from the last sign /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Anyway nice meetin you!

Hi Rich,

Cambridge is one of the most beautiful places in the USA.

Couldn't agree with you more on this. How's things been? Haven't chatted for some time. I've passed your place numerous times and have seen your growing goat herd above the stream bed. Also, I see you are making tremendous progress on the house. Are you still working for the State of NY?

Best wishes to you and your family this Thanksgiving.

If your ever driving through Cambridge on Rt 22, watch your speed limit at 30, those constables are viscious.

Hi Rubs,

Totally agree. Several years ago my wife was nabbed in this same location....doing about 42MPH in the 30 MPH zone. This happened about a 100 feet right after she was transitioning (ie, trying to brake from the 55MPH zone north of the Village to the 30MPH zone). She got no sympathy. I understand the reason law enforcement is vigorous about enforcing speed limits but unfortunately this event had adverse effects. Ever since this ticket, my wife will not do any shopping if she doesn't have to in the Village of Cambridge. She will go to Greenwich or Bennington, VT. All this is unfortunate. This is not the only location the Village of Cambridge police hang out at. They also love to cruise back and forth on Main Street and love to sit at the end of West Main by the old Cambridge dry cleaners.

In any event, your warning to use caution in staying below the speed limit is well warranted.

Howdy, Bob!!!

Yes I still work for NYS, but my wife left her state job last week, to run the farm full time. We'll be selling goat milk through out goat dairy cooperative this spring, and hopefuly within a year we'll be making about what her salary was, and within two years, we'll be exceeding it. I've got 3 1/2 years until reitrement, and then I'll be joining her as a full time farmer.

How are you doing? Are you still a state worker also?
