Close to buying MX5100

I didn't know that there were other differences. Going to have to reconsider even though I don't like the whole turbo thing.

I agree with all comments about the MX5100. As for the turbo, I don't know if I could tell the difference in HP but I sure like the sound of that turbo spooling up. Now that is cool.

Oh, being a new tractor owner, I did not appreciate the value of the deluxe telescoping 3ph. I don't know how those without it don't get frustrated attaching various implements. As a novice, it has been great!

Go with the MX5100 4WD. You will be glad you did. :thumbsup:

Roger we traded a NA Case CX80 in on an M8540 with a turbo this summer and with the exception of the cool down which isn't a big thing, I see no reason not to go with a turbo to get the added stuff on the MX5100.

I believe a L4740 will have all the goodies and be non turbo, but you will pay for it.

No I'm good - I was always buying the MX5100 (more because it was on the lot and ready to go to my specs vs anything else). I would have picked the 4700 if it was available and on the lot with the same 3PH.

I've had concerns about turbos as well, but in reality they are quite durable and can often be rebuilt rather cheaply. Turbos are on the majority of diesels, from cars, trucks, big rigs, dozers, front end loaders, etc. Use good quality oil, keep the air filter clean and let it cool down a bit after use. Good precautions for any engine really.

Had my MX5100 for a year now with 105 hours. Wouldn't hesitate to buy it again. Good tractor.

It arrived yesterday and so far it's great. Somehow looking at it on my property, the size 'just fits'. The 3800 would have been too small. I managed to clear a spot beside my garage for the implements, take a full bucket of rocks down to a creek to stabilize a culvert and turn a large compost pile!

One learning is to invest in the telescoping 3PH or quick hitch of some sort. Swapping implements would be a major pain without this. Waiting for the tiller to arrive this week.

Will take it easy for a bit as the land is still soft and, with loaded tires, I don't want to damage the trails. I stayed out of the fields so far.

Yes the telescoping 3 point links are a big plus especially with cat 2 impliments which have the captured pin hook up instead of the open end pins on the cat 1. Good luck with your new MX. Nice tractor.

Ohh one more thing - as others have noted, the parking brake is awful! Very difficult to engage, never sure if it's engaged, etc.

It's a 7' baltic tiller and this things got one **** of an appetite. Let me tell ya, when I drop her, she's destroying a little piece of mother earth.:laughing: I'm getting this ground ready for whitetail institute.:thumbsup:
