Recently changed my fluid in my hydrostatic transmission and noticed fluid becomes cloudy after running tractor for a few minutes...was wondering if this is caused by the return oil splashing when entering the reservoir or there is water, cavitation, aeration?

moisture, is the fluid clear before it gets run?
If so the water may have separated out, and cracking a drain plug
and trying to let out just a quart or so may clear it up.

It is clear before starting it up

Can you siphon or drain some of the cloudy fluid out into a clear glass container? This way you can observe better if air entrainment or moisture. Air you will tiny bubbles water fluid is typically milky colored and over time there would be separation layer of water and oil.

It looks like there’s some water in the fluid. You could put some in a clear container and allow time to separate to verify.

Took some out there is no sign of water...it seems to be air. Any idea how air could enter the system? Can find any leaks.

How long did you let the container sit?

Does the oil get cloudy with tractor sitting stationary and without PTO operating?

Air not entering from leaks unless its on the suction side.

That sure looks like water to me. Draining and filling with new, may take more than one cycle of fluids to get all the water out.
