Yep. The blower is a bit pricey (about$2500) but I've never had a FEL and wasn't sure how it would work out. I WAS sure it would take longer and I'm not patient! Besides, with a FEL, there's going to be snow piles and around here (South Dakota) we NEVER get snow without wind so a pile of snow just means a deeper drift and even more snow to move after the next storm (or even a windy day) so I like the blower 'cuz it makes it just go away. For me the whole setup is probably more than I really need but if ya can't enjoy life then why bother at all? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

So what's that Yellow & White thing I saw back yonder? I looked really hard at the Cub myself. Its about 1/2 the money but I was afraid there would be problems with the belt drive on the blower. My old tractor had almost the same setup and when the snow blew back into the belts it was done until the belts dried out again. I also didn't like the look of that vacum powerd belt tightener/clutch. Let me know how it works out - if you ever get snow. If it works well I'll feel like I spent too much. But I'll enjoy it anyway. Besides, I have a rather steep driveway and the MFWD really comes in handy on a snowy slope. Notice I don't have chains on either.

I've got no objection to 4210's hangin' out here. I hate to see the homeless... Nice looking rig. BTW, how necessary is the weight box with the FEL? I didn't get one for my 2210. I thought I would just hitch up the 400 lb. tiller if I need weight.

Ducati996,

After thinking on it a bit it seems that a front blower for the 2210 (or the 4100 in your case) is cheaper than a whole 'nother machine! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm really just jealous 'cuz you've got 2 machines to play ... uh ... I mean ... work with. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Actually the blower is only about $1700 or so. The rest of the cost is in the front quick hitch and the front PTO. Now if you buy a broom or a blade or something, you've already got the hookup. Just trying to justify my purchase I guess... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Without seeing it up close and personal, it looks like the 4100 is just a 2210 with bigger tires (or vise-versa.) I've never looked at the specs though.

I have a 4210 MFWD with the 420 loader and turf tires, and against the advice of my salesman I declined the offer to load the rears as 90% of my operating hours are mowing time.

Pulled the 60-inch MMM to perform the 50 hour service and installed the FEL, with the deck removed rear traction became very poor so I purchased a Frontier 72 inch RB. The 285 lbs. of weight on the rear make a big difference. Can't imagine using a FEL in snow without a ballast box or an implement on the back.

Hi Dave,

The 4100 and 4110 (its replacement) share the exact same specs. I was quoted close to $4k(for blower & hitch) for the front blower when I was looking. I already had the Cub first before I lucked out in acquiring the 4100. It made more $$ sense to get the Blower attachment for the Cub (over 50% less expensive) and use the Cub for Mowing and snow throwing. The attachment for MMM on the 4100 is $2000. So it really would have added up quick..the 4100 is on the big side for tight mowing...it wasnt planed to have both but sort of just happened this way...no regrets however....
You have a very good machine, never feel the need to justify the purchase!! I'm looking forward to heavy snow soon!! I need to justify my purchase- Imagine if I got skunked this year (no snow) I would cry !! It could happen- but I doubt it and pray it dosent !!

Send some snow this way if you can !!

Dave,

I saw your question regarding rear ballast when using a FEL.
Its mandatory you have ballast!! your owners manual will say how much depending if you add wheel weights or load tires. Its as much if not more than the lifting capabilites of your FEL. If you dont use enough ballast, your back end will lift up very quickly, when you dont expect it...

Thanks for all the info. I hope my 400# tiller will be enough ballast. I had NO idea that the price for the 4100/4110 blower was so high. I think you can buy the Cub & the blower for that! I know I saw a cub with a 48" mower for less than $5k. Besides, a guy can't have too many toys! Who'da thought some of us would be hoping for snow! We must be nuts!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I too just took delivery of a new 2210. My next purchase will be a rear blade. Is there much difference between a 5 footer and a 6 footer. I will need some ballast for the FEL. I was wondering if the 6 foot blade would be too cunbersome. ie. squeezing thru fence gates etc.

I agree with the ballast.

Congrats on the new tractor.
I don't think I would like having a rear blade as the ballast, unless it was being used along with the FEL.
I think it is too wide, would make the tractor to long with both thoses implements on at the same time.
