I have a mysterious clunk when my tractor is backing up (DK40SE HST Cab). I get five clunks in a row when backing out of my garage, then I don't have a problem after that. It's in 2WD, no load on the 3PH, I let the tractor warm up for about 5 minutes (70 degree temps). I don't use the tractor everyday, so I'm not sure if it's because it sits for a week at a time or so. I've only got 42 hours on the tractor. Before I hault it to the Dealer, I figured I'd ask in here to see if anyone has had this issue. I did have the dealer do the "reverse whine" repair and I didn't have a problem after I got it back. This has just started recently. I also checked the fluid to make sure it's up to the full mark and it's down maybe a 1/4" from the Full mark. Hopefully someone has seen this and can help. Thanks.

No I have never heard of this before, but one thing I would do is check the torque of all of the wheel lug nuts and bolts. I don't know why it would just be in reverse but it is worth a check, doesnt cost anything and needs to be checked anyway. Don't depend on the dealer to make sure they are properly torqued, and it needs to be done on the 50 hour service anyway.

Don't forget to check the torque on the rim bolts also.

I think it does it in reverse because it is the first direction he goes after he starts up. If he parked backwards and started the day driving forwards the same thing might happen. Sounds like air where there shouldn't be in the hst.

I did check the torque on the rims/wheels and they are tight (torqued properly). I'll try backing it in to see if I get it moving forward and let everyone know.

Well as Homer Simpson says Dooooh ! I found the problem. As I was backing out to turn the tractor around the Antenna mast broke off, hence my thumping noise is cured ;-)
I haven't had a cab tractor before, so I never thought of the Antenna hitting the roof rafters. Sorry if I alarmed anyone, as it's a non-issue.
