My mistake. IJetro - I don't think that will cause any permanent issue to dog it down. Many tractors have a latch to hold the clutch peddle down. My Kubota does. I wish the Ford did.

Thanks John, I wish too, now that I see the importance of it. My ford 1700 manual had a sentence about putting a spacer block to seperate clutch disk from the flywheel. I was not sure about it, it sounded a lot like riding the clutch although I realize the engine is off and it is for storage purposes. I'm sure a piece of 2x4 will do the trick as well as high dollar CNH Part.:D

On the old 8n fords they had a fiber asbestos clutch lining now they put some matalic particals in the lining and is more prone to rust on the fly wheel.I replaced the clutch on it and it was worse than the old one about freezing .We push it outside and drive it around hit the brakes left then right quickly this seems to work most of the time if that dont work drive it in a circle and hit the brakes the shock should transfer to the cluch and break it free.

My Satoh 470 has a latch to hold the pedal down. I think it flips over and catches some linkage. I have not had to use it though

My NH's have the place for a wood block spacer too.

I also block the clutches in most of my other tractors when not in use for some time.

I'me sure it does add a little wear to the clutch springs .. but that's better than a stuck clutch..

My bad. I wasn't clear enough .

In that case, I agree. Slamming the pto into gear would be abusive.

If you are going to block the clutch like this....how long is considered "some time"? Weeks, months??

If I'm not going to be on the tractor for a few weeks.. say.. 3 weeks.. i block it.

The problem is when not in use, on a quick tempature and high humidity the fywheel and pressure plate sweat and form suface rust, this bonds them(plates & disc)together
The solution is to pull the tractor with foot on pedal" clutch released" trans in HI REVERSE, with a vehicle strong enough to do it without damage, and snatch it using a slack logging chain 6-8 times or until clutch releases. Now! we are talking slack, meaning straight, but on the ground starting with a little more slack and a little more accelaration by the pulling vehicle. not 10 ft of slack and 8 mph at take -up. If you don't have a hole to access the bell housing, drill one. a 1in. dia would be nice, you can make a plug for it later and may need it again anyway.
Drill 1 hole hole high and centerline on the bellhousing (over the clutch assmbly)the650 has an clutch inspection plate on the bellhouseing underneath so you can soak the bottom half of the disc/plates follow directions as per john_bud in previous thread. let it soak for days if needed occasionaly re-soaking it and try snatching. it should break free. As for pickleling I have done this use spray white grease that dries. Pull coil wire, have someone release clutch, use the starter to bump the engine. spray a section, spraying as much as needed to coat in between flyw, press plate and disc and as much you can reach(use long straw tube that comes with the can. This will make free-up easier if it sticks at all. Use hot water to clean assm. through 1' hole with inspection plate off for drainage. then use white lube to lube the release bearing pilot collar , lube the release bearing if it has fitting with grease gun.
