Clutch Noise???

I may be out of line here, but if I had a tractor with 56 hrs on it that still made the squealling noise after doing what you have done I would do more than write an e-mail. I would be jumping up and down and letting them know it was unacceptable. In the showroom if necessary.

Yeah, but as soon as he does that the noise will stop.

Do you all think that changing from the original 80W API GL-4 oil to Traveler Premium UTF could cause the squealing?

With out a doubt the gear sounds will change with the lighter wt oil.
What you hear is probably just the gear mesh.
Are you sure you are hearing a squeal and not a whine?

Sounds like a belt slipping and squealing upon engagment of the clutch... just as gears begin to move the tractor.

With that said there is a noticable low howl that I don't remember before. More of vibration. I can get it to almost stop by sitting on the fender.

With the tractor idleing in neutral do you have the noise?
With the tractor idleing in neutral do you have the noise when you
push and release the clutch?
Is the noise only when you put it in gear and let the clutch out?

Only when in gear.... does not do it neutral. It's worse in higher gears when you have to rev higher and let off a little slower.

   / Clutch Noise??? #26
If its not making the noise in neutral when you press and release the
clutch then it isn't the throwout bearing.
I'm pretty sure you don't have a belt slipping in the trans.
Your hyd pump will only pump X amount of oil no matter how many
remotes are added.
The only thing changed in the trans was the oil.
Lighter oil will increase noise and vibration due to less dampening.
Its good that you documented the problem in case something develops in the future.
A lot of dealers go brain dead as soon as you say " dont you remember?"
Their answer is " naw I dont remember that"
Your trans was built with clearances for gear oil lubrication and UDT is a
whole lot thinner.
Thats my opinion.
Good luck

Hmm, so you think I should try some of the Mahindra oil, same stuff that was in it and see if it goes away?

   / Clutch Noise??? #29
No I wouldn't do that.
I think its something you will have to live with.
Kubota says UDT for my tractor and the trans is by no means quiet
as a matter of fact its noisy.
Dealer shop said it was normal, I asked while it was in the shop.
We started a new one and it made noise also.

Well, I will wait and see what the dealer says on Tuesday. I'll post an update.

The dealer came by today, tested the tractor out then made a few calls. He thinks it's the pilot bearing causing the noise. So he took it back to shop with him, he said they will split it verify what's wrong and fix it. But he feels like it's the pilot bearing and he said he would replace the throw out bearing while in there.

So far my dealer has been great to deal with. They don't even charge me to come out check things out and haul it to their shop. Which they could since warranty doesn't cover hauling.

I'll post another update when I get it back on what the verdict was.

Sounds like your dealer is taking good care of you!
Good for you and good for him!

G'day i agree with Roy you sound like you have got a good dealer who will go out of his way to make his customers happy ( as we all should:D ). Bit hard to diagnose over the internet but you may have a clutch plate that is a bit hard and shiny, his can cause a squawk/ squeal when taking off and is more noticeable in the higher gears as there is more load on the clutch when you take off. I do not think that this could have been caused by your new additions nor by your change of trans fluid, the pic of the inside of your clutch housing looks good as there is no sign of clutch material floating around but i think you need to lay off the grease gun a bit as you do not want to end up with grease on the clutch plate ( not good for it:(). Hope they find your prob and get you back up running quick smart

#2 on less grease. Lots of TO bearings are not greasable. As long as there's free play, they are rarely engaged. You sure don't want grease on your clutch disc. Probably the dealer will mention this when they split it.

I agree that you have a good dealer. It is good to know there are some still around after all the horror stories posted here. But really, you should not expect anything less on a tractor with only 56 hrs. You should be commended on your patience

Sounds great, that will be an easy fix.
Good dealers are a good find also.

Good for you. Good to have a dealer support you after the sale.
Best wishes.

Update, I haven't got my tractor back from the dealer yet and they still have it split at their shop. They said that the pilot bearing had a bad seal and condensation must have gotten in and cause it to rust.

I'll post another update when I get it back and test it out.

Well, there you have it. I assume you are satisfied with that diagnosis and the problem will be solved.??

Must be a long wait not having your tractor around. Lonely.

Thanks for the update. Yesterday I was wondering how you were making out. It is a hard time of year for shops. I know my dealer/shop takes care of farmers and others trying to make a living with thier equipment first. Seems like the right thing to do but inconvenient for the rest of us at times.
