YM1510 - used carefully for the last few years, with no major problems (broken hydraulic pipes etc was about the worst)

contractor brought in to help, whilst wheelchair bound wife with 11 month baby takes a lot of time up.

anyway - he builds, from scrap components, a triple bladed 6 foot wide topper, and attaches it to the 3ph and the pto. Its all out of balance, and vibrating so badly (that I see afterwards) that the toplink pin has popped out, after popping out the lynch pin / R clip that was holding it in - its that out of balance. several other pins have fallen out.

would this thrashing about (ie horribly out of balance load) cause a catastrophic clutch failure? Im wondering if the shock loading of the pto shaft back and forth has trashed the clutch.

ideas on how to 'prove' this?

any UK suppliers of a clutch - hoyse havent ansered any emails

There is a shear pin/sleave between the clutch and the trans it may have performed as designed and saved the tractor. if so you will probally have to split the tractor to replace it. What makes you think the clutch is broken.

What is a tripple bladed 6ft topper? And why is the contractor using your tractor with this worn our piece of equiptment? Sounds like it should be his responsibility?

6 foot topper is England speak for a bush hog type mower measuring 72".

Thanks MJ i was no where close. That makes all the sense now. "he builds from scrap components a 3 bladded..." The reason it has 3 blades and not 2 as well as why its out of balance!

I was thinking a concrete finisher with the blades to smooth something, but then i could not figure out how they were smooting concrete with a tractor. But imagine me picturing in my head this guy backing a tractor up to a damp slab standing beside it and holding onto and moving around this huge 3 bladed concrete smoother as its bouncing and wobbling around!!

Cheaping out means paying in the end. Sounds like the clutch pack on the PTO, not the main clutch.

No emails have been received from you. Please use our "ticket" sytem instead of email (click "contact us" at the bottom of my post). With a ticket you will get a tracking number and you can check the status of our reply at any time. Email is very unreliable. Too much spam and too many programs that are trying to help block it are filtering out good emails too.

6' rough cut mower home made or not is awful big for that 15 pto hp tractor imho there may be more wrong than you think?

My 38 pto hp 3810D pulls the 5' howse RC I have and it loads it pretty decently in the thick stuff.

As far as proving it are you meaning whether he damaged it?

If it was ok when he borrowed it (think I am getting that right? ) then he is responsible since it was in his care, custody and control thats how the law where I am reads anyway on liability.

Thaks Hoye - will do so in the future.

tractor split - clutch has indeed exploded. 」300 (500 dollars?) locally for a new one.

The cutter is a deck 6 feet wide, with three blades, each about 2 feet across (like any domestic lawn mower). The gearbox was modified to have a PTO shaft on it - but it was a 'proof of concept' build - ie would my tractor pull this load, and cut the grass in the field - yes it will - and nicely. Pity it was such an expensive lesson.

UK speak:-
Topper - flat bladed cutter to take off longer grass to shorten it for sheep etc.
Finish mower - as above, but very very short grass for lawns / golf courses.

edit: and furthermore my policy is you break it you fix it! I rarely borrow tools but when I do I find some way to bring it back in better shape than I got it in.

I still am wondering why your contractor is using your tractor and when he broke it with his cobbled togeather "topper" he did not fix it. I surely hope you did not even pay him. The deffinition of contractor is someone that you pay to do a job. that should mean that they have all the tools to complete this job. I really cant understand. Thats like me taking my car to the Car Doc and letting him use my tools to fix it and he busts my sockets and ruins my scantool and still dosent fix the problem he was hired to do?
