Clutch problem on Massey 35

Need help;I cannot engage live pto it just grates:have adjusted clutch to less than 80thou but no better.It is an after market clutch and only has 1 Bellville spring the manual shows 2 for Massey 2 stage clutch, it worked fine before taking out to clean had blown head gasket which fouled it so wonder if it is possible Bellville spring put in wrong way? Any ideas?.
