We had to replace our clutch. The biggest "problem" was locating all the things that must be disconnected so the tractor will split (a wire, hose, or other such simple thing cant keep it from splitting).
We did ours outside on dirt. But then, we have a tall, portable engine pulling frame with a chain hoist. We used that to hole the front end so that th front could still roll on the wheels. We used a hydraulic jack lo raise and lower the back end.
If we would have had the parts, we could have done the entire job in a single weekend, having never done this before. However, we did need to get the flywheel resurfaced and had to take it to someone for that.
As far as price, that is another subject. That depends greatly on the brand of tractor ... and, no, I am not saying that the top names are more expensive. Our tractor is a FarmTrac that is only 39HP (I know :ashamed

and the clutch disk sells for $600 dollars from Montana Tractors. (The rerpair shop that is about 2 hrs away would have charge $1500-$2000)
We were able to get the pressure plate and throwout bearing from the place that resurfaced the flywheel. He also rebuilds clutch disks. He discovered that the clutch disk in our tractor is a bit of an odd-ball and he was unable to get what he needed to repair/rebuild it.
We found a place in Kentucky that said they could fix it (KYclutch.com). We sent it to them. They called and said they actually could NOT rebuild it. However, they did locate a replacement disk for $125.
The tractor is back up and running for many hours now
