I got a dumpster the other day. I like to get them every couple of years to rid myself of accumulated crap that I can't put by the curb.

I can't stand clutter. It drives me insane. Although the dumpsters are not cheap, the feeling I get from a tidy barn, shop, and house make them worthwhile.

I went for a drive the other day with my girlfriend. It amazed me how many places looked like junkyards. They had **** in the backyard, **** in the front yard, **** on the porch, basically **** everywhere.
How can people live like this?

Some may say they're collectors and don't want to let it go because someday it will be worth something. Trust me those days are few and far between. Your just living in a **** pile waiting to die.

You know what I collect? I collect memories. They are priceless, and they don't take up much room.

I try and get a dumpster every couple of years also. My philosophy is is that if I have to knock alot of dust and dirt off it, I don't need it.

Last year was bad. My basement was full with paths to walk around. My parents stuff was down there and bro in laws stuff.

Mom died and dad was moving. Bro in law died. Dad got his stuff out and whatever of mom's he wanted. Gave some things to goodwill and friends. Pitched the rest.

Usually a 10 yard is good. Last year had to have it emptied and brought back.

I'm absolutely surrounded by useless clutter, but the property and the items on it belong to my in-laws, so beggars can't be choosers and whatnot.

dj1701,

I agree. Years ago I would be offered something I thought I'd bring it back to life. When we moved, alot of that junk went to the scrap yard. Every once in a while I'll go look for something I had saved for a decade but ended up scraping it. You'd think I would be kicking myself at that point. But NO, because I know for every 1 item I miss, a hundred are GONE.

Now I refuse these offers of free junk. Same with cars/trucks, we now have 2 and they are in our garage. I had an old Suburban that I thought I'd put a snow plow on...drove it to the scrap yard..

We still have my wife's grandmothers stuff, but she will have to sort that...

This is where I am at, although much of what I have is simply things which once worked and I think I can get it going again. Or, like my generator I just need to clean the fuel system out, then store it dry. When I moved here 20 years ago I built an 8x20 foot shed and put a lot of things in it which I didn't have room for. Unfortunately I didn't realize how much a metal roof condensates and weeps, so a lot of things got wet and ruined. I also had squirrels get into it...
I finally decided this year that it's time to get rid of some things. Every week a pickup load goes to the dump. It about made me sick to throw out my old Jenson tower speakers, knowing how much they cost me; but squirrels got into them and they were useless. My old reciever is next... it worked when I put it up there but I never intended for it to take up permanent residence there.
