Chris, what are you hauling that you need to worry about stopping when you have it hooked to the 7610s or the 5000. Either tractor should have more then enough weight to stop what you have hooked to it. Its not like you are going to be driving 50 mph with your machines unless you have been tinkering with them.

what you speek of (hitting a soft patch and slowing down) would be the same as just costing to a stop or stop-and-go traffic. .

Hitting a soft patch of sand and slowing down is NOWHERE near similar to coasting to a stop.

When I'm on my tractor.. pulling 4-6k# behind me, and I hit the soft patches I speak of.. my speed decreases by a third.. easilly... that's deffinately not like dumping the clutch and shifting out of gear and waiting for the tractor to roll to a stop... The 2 tractors i pull any weight with are big utility or small AG sized.. over 6k#.. when they hit that soft sand.. they drop speed way faster than my pickup truck does..

I was just thinking that since all but my smallest trailer has brakes on it.. that it might be nice if the tractor has a brake controller.

the trailer weights fall under the rated drawbar pull of both tractors, thus I assume that under normal circumstances, that tractor braking would be suficient.. however.. After perusing manuals, I see that there was a dealer trailer brake kit for the 5000.. though I can't get any info on it other than part number.. etc.

I guess it would just be a nice 'optional' feature i'd like. In an emergency, I guess I could use the trailer brakes to stop me.. ( of course.. If it was a real emergency.. I guess dumping the throttle and killing the engine in gear should stop ya.. or skid tires... but still... )
