Be careful of that high octan..instant reg Maxwell House, now thats the way to start a morning. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Not to rub it in, but this morning I went to work and wandered thru the roaster deck. Grabbed a small handful of Kona, another of Yemen Mocha, and a third of Sulawesi beans fresh out of the roaster, blended them, ground them, and brewed up a pot. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Oh sure, here I sit at work drinking MH and you're drinking caffienated ambrosia. No, you're not rubbing it in at all! /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

Now that I thnk about it, my wife is sitting at home drinking GMC coffee. That's it, I gotta get me a thermos to bring to work!

Thanks Peter for the "lab study"... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

It must be my tastebuds... because last year my sister brought back some Kona from Hawaii and it tasted very bitter to me...

I told a friend/coffee fanatic about my experience with "Kona" and he said I should have my "head examined".../w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

... I told him..."they probably wouldn't find anything..." /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Peter

I notice that you like your coffee fresh out of the roaster... I have read that it needs to rest for 12 to 72 hours to flash off some CO2 before you get the best taste. Is this right or just bunk?

Well, here's my coffee update. Bear in mind, IF I had some tractoring to do I wouldn't be nearly so into this thread. For those details see my <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=genoperating&Number=103271&fpart=1>I Miss My Tractor </A> thread.

It's been about two weeks (maybe three) and I'm really into it. 3-5 cups in the morning but still doing the Diet-Dew in the afternoon (want something cold then). Had an Espresso at lunch the other day and it was wonderful.

Now here's the best part, and the TBN tie-in... I have had the good fortune to try some of Pete's Green Mountain Coffee Roasters coffee and I'm fully hooked. Not sure I can go back to Folgers/Maxwell House.

I suppose my next logical step is to invest in a grinder and a better coffee maker for home. I'll drive my wife nuts with the research. Any recommendations? Is there a PTO grinder available?

Hey, I'll have a full pot on tomorrow morning for anyone who wants to stop by and watch my tractor sit there /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

What /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif maybe no more Maxwell House coffee for you in the future. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

You didn't mention anything about donuts /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif for coffee and donuts are a get way to start the day..except for one other way. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Well my old enamel coffee pot for the fire pit finally broke down. Went out and got me a stainless steel percualtor (?) for the fire pit. Been using it in the house though now and love the percualting noise/smell. Boy had some of that fancy high test coffee Pete put's out up there on the mountain. Boy that stuff will really get your motor running!!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif The guy I was working with should of give it to me before we did trail maintainance/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Of course I work cheap just two cups of coffee for about 4 hours work.
Take care

   / Coffee #90
I know how you feel about putting the old coffee pot to rest, for I had to do the same w/ my copper coffee pot. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
I tried some of Pete's coffee at work..Vermont Blend..and I must admit it was pretty darn good.

Thats pretty cheap labor..2cups in 4 hours. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Looks like we got a mix bag of nasty weather coming our way tomorrow afternoon /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif So I better scoot around and get things done, also stock up on some MH. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Be extra careful when out and about.

The problem with our forecasts this year is that they have been wrong more often than not. I can't remember the Fairbanks Museum meteorologists missing the target so often as this year! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Usually they're right on.

After last winter forecasting and the type of winter we had /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif I do like the out come of there forecasting this year. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Rob -- try Cafe du Monde brand out of New Orleans. You can order from their website. This stuff, brewed strong, will knock you out of your socks.

   / Coffee #94
Oh, yes, that stuff is great also, always stop by the "Cafe" when in New Orleans for coffee. I have had all the chain brands like Starbucks and the mail order Gevalia and the exotics and all that and they are great, and 8 o'clock is better than nothing which cannot be said for Maxwell House but for me Community is still the best coffee. Yeah, but with the drought, if not for last winter's massive snowpack we would have been without water even longer! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Long range forecasts call for more dry weather this spring and summer. I sure hope they're wrong about that. When my spring goes dry I have to tap into our ponds, and all that algae is tough on the water heater and pipes.

Lets hope we don't have a dry spring and summer for everybody suffers..even nature, and the last thing we would need would be a forest fire. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Thomas writes Lets hope we don't have a dry spring and summer for everybody suffers

Well Thomas there is the other side of the coin. Dry spring and summers are when my bees produce the most. Granted, there must be enough for the plants, but too much the bees can't pollenate and gather that golden sweet honey.

Dave,
Even last year the apple corp was down and the acorn wasn't as big.
One got to tip there hat to those fuzzy little guys for what they do.

Our area water table down 11.4 inches and water usage warning are still in affect.
The good side is the frost has only gone down couple inches which will help not to let the water run of when the snow melts..the bad news is all we have 11 inches of snow..thank goodness we got a lot of snow last year.
Ice fishing..one can just about forget that winter sport around here..thats if your brave enough to try it. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

<quote>Talkin' about all-nighters - our physiology professor in med school told us that for all nighters to work you have to replicate the chemicals in your body during the test to be the same as when you were studying. That meant that if you were hopped up on caffeine during the studying, you better be hopped up on caffeine when you took the test. Had something to do with the chemicals affecting how the memories were stored. </quote>

That reminds me of something I haven't thought it in years. An old fella
knew the best fishing spot on the river -- but he couldn't remember where
it was until you gave him a six pack. I've wondered many times whether
he just wanted the beer. Maybe he wasn't lying after all!

Coffee & other beverages

A couple of years ago we got a great deal on some fantastic champagne by the caseload. Bought several cases. It was a hot summer, so we stashed a few bottles in each of our springhouses (under water). For the next couple of years, whenever we finished a particularly arduous task, we'd "head for the springhouse."
