Thanks, John. I forgot to mention in my original post that I've adopted your hooked-clutch warmup procedure. Great idea!

I'm not sure, I just towed it behind the snow bank and will forget about it until spring. I was busy trying to get my other car to start, That one would not start, I put gas line anti freeze in it and by Sunday afternoon it finally started. I suspect that, with the Suzuki, the rubber O ring on the oil filter split when the engine tried to push oil into the filter which was full of super cooled thick oil. I guess I'm in the market for a NEW car, at least the tractor is fine /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

Yeah for those of us who have not seen snow and who consider a winter day one where I can't wear T-shirts and shorts until midday............

What the hell happens to the filters and oil when it is cold??

Why do they blow out like that??

Why do they blow out?

Well, "blow out" is a bit of an overstatement. The O-ring seal fails under the extra high pressure caused by the cold highly viscous fluid. It dribbles out at a pretty good clip, but hardly a "blow-out".

Once it starts leaking, it won't seal up, no matter how much you tighten it.
