Cold Snap

I live in Wisconsin near the cranberry capital (bogs) of Warrens. For the past week we've been having over night lows of -27f or more below zero. This morning it was -30f and the high is supposed to be -12f. Over night it is expected to drop to -31f then gradually rise to -3 on Thursday. This is without wind chill. We are in a state of emergency, whatever that means..... it is @*#^% cold!!!!

I have to kick my dogs off of my deck when I let them out to go to the bathroom!

However, by Saturday it is supposed to warm up to high 30's and then mid 40's for Sun and Mon before returning to more normal high teens and low 20's.

Stay safe! I drove through the remnants of a bush fire in WA a year ago. It was scary how close it got to houses.

You are only a few miles south of me (Hatfield area). Just judging from deer seasons I think we have been starting winters much earlier (9F on second day this year (I skip opening day)...mid-November) and they end much later. I have about 60 years of experience now in Wisconsin weather and guess I can say that what we are seeing is nothing new. We've been here before.

Boy do I sympathize with the folks in the mid-west. Saw a video of the Chicago area this morning. I've been in some really bitter cold wx but never with that kind of wind. It bad enough to have bitter cold, wild winds - but to top it off, the gal got blown down by the wind.

So far here in NE WA its been a mild winter. Very little snow and temps around freezing in the day time.

School closed 4 days this week. They were so excited. Going to classes tomorrow and off the weekend. They are having their big smiles.

I got stuck in Kearney in the early '80s because the diesel gelled up. It was 20 below with a 20 mph wind out of the north, and that's as cold as I ever want to be. The news on the TV was about a young woman who tried to walk to a convenience store to get milk for her baby. She didn't make it. I suspect they will be finding bodies for a while.
