OK, much to my relief, my GC2300 started this morn. I don't know how cold it actually got here (my thermometer said 0 degrees @ 1:00 AM; 10 degrees @ 4:30 AM but I'm not convinced it's accurate).

Due to a prediction of -15 degrees, I used a double dose of Power Service with 5 gal. of fresh fuel in the tractor (well mixed), started and ran it for 10-15 minutes at 8 PM, then again at midnight, then brought the battery inside. So I figured fuel and battery were covered, even if oil was not. 50-hour service was performed by the dealer about 15 hours ago.

This morn about 9:00 AM, I reinstalled the battery, hit the glowplugs (no glowplug lights on the GC2300) for about 20 seconds, let it rest for another 20, then gave it another 20 on the plugs. Plenty of cold cranking on the battery, but it didn't quite want to go. I ended up repeating this routine three times before I got 'er to start.

So my (long-winded) question is how do you others with these tractors do the cold starts? I've been reading everything I can on the board the last few days and there must be as many different starting techniques as there are tractors (or tractor drivers). I know the MF GC2300 hasn't been around too long, so I'm especially curious to hear from any who have those. But of course I'm always up for any other ideas, so anyone (on topic) feel free to chime in!

In a word, ur two words "block heater". And synthetic motor oil.

Ya know, back in August when I bought the tractor, I asked my dealer about the need for a block heater. Think I did it again fairly recently, but before our recent bout of cold weather. Both times they talked me out of it (and I figured they were the experts). I've noticed a few others have had the same experience. What gives???

I don't understand it either. All dealers in northern states should always recommend some type of engine heater. You might also try a good synthetic oil. It will let the engine turn over better when the temperature is real cold.
