We drive out in the trucks, but I can keep this tractor related by saying I've seen them use tractors to smooth the ice ridges out at the landings. Last Saturday I drove on the lake via an access with a pressure ridge. At 10 a.m. the ridge was relatively smooth. By 9 a.m. the next morning, the ridge was about 4 feet high. The ridges on shore are not a big deal, but the ones that are 3/4 of a mile out need to have a bridge over them or you may not make it back.
I guess any lake that has in excess of 200 square miles of surface area needs to be respected no matter how cold it gets.
