Cold weather and junk fuel

Bio-diesel has a really high gell/cloud point so in colder weather one must really be on top of the additive mix. A lot of bio-diesel fuel users had serious Winter challenges when bio-diesel was first introduced around here.

Interesting reading here! I seldom have trouble with gelled fuel. I always fill at the pumps and therefore fill with in season fuel. I live in an area with a lot of diesels so the fuel is always fresh. I keep a few jerry cans at home but try to use then up so that I don't have any non seasonal fuel in them. One thing I have noticed is that if I have winter fuel in my tractor and go and rototill a garden I don't have as much power and the fuel use is higher.

I work as a mechanic and the only people that have had trouble this winter are the ones who use fuel out of tanks stored on their own yard. Anyone filling from the pumps hasn't had a problem.

The local federated coop where I buy 99% of my fuel told me that they add all the additives that diesel needs at the refinery so I don't use any fuel conditioner etc. at all. I don't even keep any in stock. I don't have fuel problems either unless my fuel filters are long overdue for a a change.

Got to say what got me in trouble was I ran my barrel out and got some fuel in town in 5 gallon cans. That screwed me all up. Once I got an order delivered from our oil coop, no more problems. Finally got that junk fuel from the service station worked on through and the rest is history.
