As this is front range territory, they had exceptionally high winds driving the fire. One gust was clocked at 110mph. Impossible firefighting conditions.

My heart goes out to all of those affected.

My brother lost his house. Not a thing left. Him, his family, and dogs are all fine, but they literally have only what they are wearing and their vehicles. They will get through it, but a lot to process.

Glad they are all fine. My daughter lives in Wheatridge and the smoke was pretty bad.

Just down wind of the fire people have lots of burnt building scraps and burnt paper in their yards. It is no wonder how quickly this thing spread with all that stuff floating and burning.

many people we know were evacuated, sounds like they are mostly unscathed. but an unimaginable firestorm. we could see the smoke billowing to the east while installing some fencing. we are 23 miles north and a touch west of the fire. It could have easily been our valley.

The front range of colorado and wyoming have down sloping winds coming off the rockies. They can get to blowing quite strong.

I don't care if the fire is in a timber stand or prairie grass...wind driven fire is just as destructive as a huge tornado or Hurricane. There is no putting them out, you just have to get out. I saw once a fire run 20 miles in 80mph wind in the mountains one afternoon. It's a sight you never forget and never want to see again.

I know exactly where that is and have been by it many times while visiting my brother. It's on the road that goes towards by the Costco and Target along I36. It's a back way to Boulder that a lot of people take.

The Yellow Deli that the group runs in Boulder is now closed until further notice.

i know the area well also, used to drive that way a lot.
I'm sure it was an accident, and most of the rhetoric about the 12 tribes group is totally not relevant and meant to stir up discontent and hate. I read another article that was very disparaging of the group.

also, they make a fantastic sandwich. I hope the business did not have to close because people were being aholes.
