coloring hydraulic fluids?

The Kubota fluid is clear or light amber and the stick is irridite plated so you can't see the fluid at all.

What I did was to drill a hole (1/16") at the high mark and the low mark on the dipstick. Because of the oil viscosity, it will bridge the hole (upper and lower) when it's full and the (lower) and not the upper if it isn't. All you do is pull it out and look. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Easy, simple and cheap. I don't know why the tractor manufacturer didn't do it. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I too drilled a small hole in the dipstick, It seems the best way I have seen to see the oil level.
