My dad use to drive a fuel tanker the 2 were the same as far as i know about 2 yrs ago. The total volume wasn't enough to warrant carrying 2 blends of fuels they simply added dye a cheap solution.

My local station has two red dyed fuels, one high sulfur, one low sulfur. Big differance in price.

The high stuff can go down to the .70 range if you buy a few thousand gallons. About .84 for 500 gallons or more right now. The low stuff is much higher for some reason, over a dollar a gallon unless you buy in really large volumes. The prices have been all over the place, but are very low now. Well, at least compared to the recent months. Its dropped about .20 in the last month. What are you guys paying for red? Its a big price drop from road diesel here... I paid $1.35 yesterday. Last week was $1.28. Lowest I've seen is $1.23 at a BP outside of Canton, GA. Too bad I had full tanks.

At work, everything runs off the cheap stuff. The tractors do give off more smoke. Some times I use road diesel in the small stuff when we don't have a fuel truck. You can tell the differance in the exhaust.

Its probably why we are having fuel injector problems on the new machines. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

We have always used road diesel in our tractors but is this putting unnecessary wear on them? I don't get how road diesel is worse than off road as truckers do not want to wreck their engines.

How many years has it been since they switched to low sulfur fuel in on-road stuff? I've read alot of articles indicating the only major problems they ran into using low sulfur was o-rings in pumps/injectors the aromatic content in high sulfur was higher and kept o-rings soft then the low sulfur showed up and the o-rings began to go south. If i'm remembering right.

That's the only problem i've heard of. All the test's i've ever seen shows low sulfur fuel to meet the specs of lubricity and the other specs by cat and cummins. Though results very from area to area this is the south eastern region Nc/sc around in there.

If you use PowerService or something similar you should not have any problem. When I have my overhead tank filled, I always put a jug in. It lubes the pump, prevent jelling and kills algae.

I'm not sure Powerservice kills algae. I use a seperate bio-cide that I get from my bulk supplier.

No powerservice doesn't kill any bio's. It's suppose to prevent it from growing ie remove water that bio's need to reproduce.

One thing for sure, the Powerservice smells a whole lot better than the bio-cide.

The bio-cide smells like a cross between old fish and pig poop. No wonder it kills the algae. Suffocates them. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Went past the station yesterday. On the big sign it says "Unleaded Regular $1.53" "Diesel $1.53" I think this is the first time I've seen the two at the same price. Usually diesel is at least a nickle cheaper.
