Colors of the States Map

OK - We all know about 'red' states and 'blue' states and all that. I'm talking about tractor colors. At least in this area of western PA - it seems like (1) there's very little new equipment, but (2) what's there is very strongly biased towards older red & white IH. There's plenty of <font color="green"> green </font>, <font color="orange"> orange </font> (of several shades) and all the others but I'd guess that over 50% of actual farm tractors in use are older IH.

Well I just spent the best part of a week driving around west Texas meeting with a few customers and I was fairly surprised how <font color="green"> Green </font> that area was. And not just from what I understand has been a comparitively wet summer. In 900 miles of travel I bet I could count on one hand all the tractors of other colors I saw (combined) - but Deere was everywhere. Lot of newer stuff too.

How about other regions - where are the brand hotspots these days?

Without having any "official" source to go by, my general feeling for my neck of the woods (south central Wis.) would be the majority is <font color="green"> green </font> followed by <font color="blue"> blue </font> for agricultural use. It would definitely be <font color="orange"> Kubota orange </font> for landscaping operations.

If you use my area NW of Downtown Detroit Michigan. <font color="green"> Green </font>, <font color="orange"> Orange </font>, <font color="blue"> Blue </font>, and <font color="red"> Red </font>.

Hmmm.....I would definitely have to agree about being predominantly green. I would guess it has something to do with being within a few hundred miles of Moline?! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Tim, if you are asking about which brand farmers are using, then here in California it would be apparent from those farms we can see while driving that the dominate tractor hands down is John Deere. After that it's pretty sporadic mixes of NH, IH, some CAT track styles as well. The farms here are really to big for a farmer to use Kubotas out where we are likely to see them. They may very well use any number of small compacts up around the shop, etc for utility work ..

Now if it's based on what do folks who use them around their residence, it is easily Kubota, a few Deeres, very few NH and after that, its anyones guess.

Landscapers tend to use more skid and tracksteers then CUT's around here.

That's how all the "Harvest Rentals" come up for sale. The Big Deere's and others are used for the big work. Come harvest time, small tractors, like CUT's are rented, and used to mostly haul trailers around the field and yard. When they rent/lease them, the tractor is bare. It has no loader, and the 3pt arms are removed. The only thing on the tractor is a trailer hitch/ball/clevis.

They put very few hours on them, but still can not be sold as new. Some have as little as 15-50 hours.

Actually, in the area of Texas we were driving through - it was tractors of all sizes, from CUTs to jumbos, combines (or at least cotton pickers - lot of cotton down there), sprayers, the works.

There was a lot of equipment of all types out there - not all of it new, but it seemed without exaggeration like <font color="green"> green </font> had a 100:1 advantage (at least). At least 1/3 of the tractors seemed to be 5000's. I didn't get close enough to read what series.

Around here in PA I see very few Deere CUTs in use - yet I know the dealers are selling them. Most little stuff does seem to be orange. As I mentioned - the bigger stuff seems to be mostly IH red&white, but not to as strong a monochrome degree as Texas.

Southeast Iowa is a mixed bag. Lots of Green south of Burlington to the Missouri border but mostly red (MF/Case/IH) west and north until you get to CowboyDoc's part of the state and then it seems to turn green again.

In my family I have both red and green brother in laws, both loyal to a fault.
