I've been looking at the JD 3032E and was wondering why the brake pedal is combined with differential lock. Is it to give straighter braking? Is it to allow one caliper to brake both rear wheels? Or, was it just a logical place to put it for simplicity of operation? The 3032E doesn't have separate left and right brakes.

I would guess that the differential lock would get a good workout and shouldn't freeze up from disuse.

I downloaded the JD owners manual but it leaves a lot to be desired. I was impressed with how many times their lawyers insisted on reminding me to park the tractor safely before working on it. I think the moral of this story is that I'll want a service manual.

I think the main reason would be cost reduction. They are likely using 1 brake assembly in the transmission or on the driveline. In all honesty I rarely use individual brakes on my 4310.
