Hello All! We know how each of us like spending other's money. I thought I would document the entire ownership process from selecting the new Deere, to purchasing it and using it. I'll include the good, the bad, and the ugly. And the final post will be selling the tractor-- although that will be 40 years from now and posting from a nursing home!
First of all, I was very surprised at the negotiating process-- there was none.
We went to 3 dealers and while all 3 were friendly and professional, they all gave a similar price and there was no negotiating. Part of this might be the tractor we selected, a John Deere 3032e. This tractor, as you know, is a very basic tractor with very few options so there was no compelling reason why different customers would pay different prices.
The other surprise was the process itself. Again, each dealer was nice, courteous, and professional. But it was obvious that they would not be interested in sitting around for a few hours discussing different tractors and different pricing. They were all quite busy, and many times we could overhear the service and delivery guys discussing a backlog of several days to deliver a new machine.
If anybody is interested, I'll post more as we go along. The next step is getting approved by John Deere Financial, which should happen tomorrow.
