Compact Roll Bar question

You can turn over any size tractor if you do something stupid. Even lawn mowers. Do I need a ROPS on my CC 1046? Absolutely not! And if it came with one it would be removed. I'm surprised though that lawyers haven't convinced manufacturers to put ROPS on all sizes of tractors large and small.
I'm not saying ROPS doesn't do it's job, it does work well. But more times than not, I find it to be an annoyance. Besides, no piece of metal can replace the safety knowledge in my head. In the 25 years I have been driving tractors(yes my grandpa started me driving when I was 5! I can just hear the lawyers screaming now!) I have never once been in a situation where I would have rolled a tractor. Grandpa taught all his sons and grandsons what were safe and not safe things to do on a tractor and he expected us to learn and be responsible. Be smart and be safe and you'll never need a ROPS.
BTW, most of the tractors I learned on were 1930's and 1940's model John Deeres. No ROPS on those. Most of them did have a hand clutch though, so that was a nice feature for a kid with short legs /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't think I would remove a factory ROPS. No doubt that the way it is operated is the best safety feature there is. Other than a low branch (which I'd cut anyway) or a shed/garage with a low roof... she'd never know it was on. And when you combine the ROPS with a seatbelt... you are much safer. Flat ground or not.

This lady has an offer in on buying the property, (she will most likely be owning it) and we are just running around ideas as to what to use for mowing the land, it is 10 acres, but only about 6 need mowing the rest being wooded. She would definitely want a tractor and not a ZTR as there would be chores beyond mowing for it to do. Power steering is a must, along with at least a 60" deck and something built to last as it would be racking up some big hours. Also under $10k would be nice. I'm now thinking a 3100 with 60" deck would fit the bill fine rather than the CUT, which would eliminate the ROPS issue altogether. Any thoughts/ideas?

To mow that much... I'd want a "tractor" and a diesel. I would think any of the above mentioned could be had with a MMM for less than $10k.
