compact tractors

i was just wondering i have nevr really seen a compact tractor up in my region (central Ontario, Canada) we all have large tractors 50 hp and above i was just wondering y that mostly all the people in the states have them?

Most people in the US don't have CUT's either. I suspect it is fairly even, but for sure, I don't know. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

There are a lot of smaller lots where I live (5-7 acres) and a Compact tractor is the ideal size (and price) for the volume of work to be done.

I suspect that the size of properties influence a lot the size of the tractor but it is not the only factor that we consider when buying a compact tractor. Around here in northern New Brunswick, most farmers have large tractors for their patato fields and most home owners have a lawn tractor for their properties. There's only a few people around here that I know have CUTs or SCUTs. Although in recent years, the number has been going up, maybe because the CUTs and SCUTs have been available in many different flavors, size and price.

When my dealer delivered my JD4110 in the summer of 2003, he told me that he wasn't used to deliver tractors (at least CUTs) to regular home owners. I thought to myself that he would probably see this more often in the future /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I could probably have been able to do some of the stuff I needed to do with a regular lawn and/or garden tractor but I just wanted to have a real tractor that would give me all the flexibility to do what I had not tought of yet /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I can certainly tell you that I'm very happy that I got a CUT. I still enjoy see the reaction on the faces on my neighboors when I'm using the tractor around the house! I wouldn't be surprised if some of them eventually buy their own CUTs!

Glover- Where you be from Peterborough? Its just after midnight up here in Bancroft and the snow seems to have stopped. Tomorrow will be another morning that I am glad of my 4300 CUT....PS-I used to deal with Omemee and Orono but then I found the dealer in Belleville. A great crew..Pat

do u no were the liftlocks are in peterborough well there is a golfcourse their and there is road beside that we have just gotten rid of alll our sheep and ows cause of the bad floood but i am going ot get some dariy ones from my boss. i also work t a dariy/beef farm out near asumption.

Here in MI around my area there are quite a few of them, mainly <font color="green">green </font> and <font color="blue">blue </font> ones.

I think it comes down to space and topography. In the Banana Belt of Ontario, you guys have lots of space like we do in the Great Plains and Ohio and Texas for monster tractors to roam, and you need them to cover the ground quickly while the ground is dry, the sun is shining, crops are ripe, etc. For those of us on smaller 2-20 acre plots with lots of hills and gullies and trees, a big tractor just simply won't work. Same case for in Europe and Japan. For those of us in limited spaces with still with some needs for a tractor, we've gone to 2 wheelers and CUTs and SCUTs.

I first went with a Gravely and just happened upon a for sale with almost all the implements that I wanted when I first moved into my 8.5 acre retirement property. It served me well for 4 years and is still serving me in places and instances where I can't get to with my JD 4010 acquired last October. It has a FEL which is a great big wheelbarrow and small dozer. It also has full Cat 1 rear lift capability. I've used both well since taking delivery of it.
