Looking at the 4 tractors in the 2500 series seems to show the same specifications with the exception of hp. the main difference is the mowing deck. Our local shop has an opinion that the decks are getting too large for some of these tractor. If that's true, the 2442 at 3k is the best buy and the more efficient tractor. Any thoughts?? : /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I went with the 2544 for the extra HP, heavier gauge deck, three cutting blades, and larger front tires. For the money these additional features were worth it for me over the 2542.

The 2 blade 42" deck is a bit shallow. It's a good deck for side discharging or bagging, but I wouldn't get it if you intend to mulch. Mulching tends to overload them. Another factor is close-trimming. Even my 44" is a challenge to trim close to trees, fences, etc.. as it doesn't stick out the sides very far. The 42" even less. I personally wouldn't buy a 2500 series with less than a 44".
