I actually have an Ingersoll 446 for snow blowing with the shift/speed by hand and doesnt bother me at all... guess its what ever you get used to. The 2550 I gave it a good work out today and I do like the foot pedals... my cub 7235 is somewhat the same so its already normal for me. So for preference either one is a good choice for me!!! Just wish the 2550 had a little more umph in reverse though... for mowing it would be fine but for backing up a loaded sweeper in loose soil to dump it can hang easily as there is no momentum to carry.

Pull back on the "forward" pedal and you will get a lot more speed in reverse. I'm gonna add a knob on top of the "reverse" pedal to effectively get more throw out of it or see if the lever can be bent upward more..

I wish the brake and forward pedal were on opposite sides however.

After seeing the pics on the other posts, The 1872 is much more tractor compared to a 2500 series.
I can go either way on the Hydro controls. I think they went to foot controls to make operating the tractor more "carlike". They use this as a selling point as well.
