I did take my family to China in the 80's, but my numerous other China trips were work related.
A 3 week trip, and an invaluable educational experience for my 3 (then teen age) children.

I meet a friend for breakfast every week on Wed. We always go to the same restaurant. One day when the waitress asked what we would have I told her to give me the usual. She thought about it and was able to partially recall my usual order. I thanked her and told her the rest of my order.
While eating I told my friend that the first waitress to get it correct when I ordered The Usual would get a $20 tip, he said that if it happened he would match it. Two weeks later we left there $40 lighter than usual.

We know most of them on a first name basis and they usually pray with us before we eat.
Service is always great as is the food.

^ good story, Alan. Sounds like a nice place.

I went to Shanghai for a work trip in 2013. I was pretty excited to go! But that sentiment quickly soured. All of the "high end" restaurants our local colleagues took us to were kinda dingy and mysterious. I have a shellfish allergy and no one could ever tell me if there was seafood in a given dish. All the meat had bones in it, none were ever removed. So everyone is sitting there putting their fingers in their mouth to pull out bones, or spitting them back into their plates. And then using their hands to grab more of the shared food.

While I was there, there was a swine flu outbreak and all the local farmers killed and dumped all their pigs into the local rivers. Like, many thousands of pigs just dumped into all the rivers to rot. You couldn't even think about drinking tap water, got old trying to get enough plastic bottles of water all the time. The air was a thick grey smog, so despite a 12th floor hotel room, there was almost no view.

Great history, very friendly people and interesting culture, but I won't ever go back.

I think Hong Kong is one of the most fascinating cities in the world. I really like visiting.

ABSOLUTELY fascinating place!
I have spent more than a few days in Hong Kong.
I am a country boy, but LOVED going to Hong Kong.

Usta be kinda thrilling flying in there..... landing at the old Kai Tak airport.
I always sat in the very front most seat.... on the left side.
Not nearly as great a challenge as an A/C carrier, but challenging still, with the MUCH larger ... 747-400.
