Brings back memorries of mad cow disease. There are certain things that are not worth eating.

I have eaten at restaurants in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, S. Korea, Japan, and mainland Chinese cities.
Only rule I had was if it tasted good, I would eat it!
I am 80 and still alive!

Sig, sorry don't have time to read the whole thread, but not sure if anyone pointed out:

Kids menu prices aren't always lower just because the portion sizes are smaller. Restaurants often take a loss, or at least barely break even, on the kids menu stuff as an incentive to get families coming in to eat together. I know a lot of the restaurants around here do - Often the same quality of food is just in a slightly smaller portion, and half the price. IE its not proportional. So in that case, you wouldn't want to give discounts to wealthy adults for no reason.

Just opinion, but the service industry has changed for good. And as a consumer, I don't want to be treated like a number. The first waitress had it right. She treated Sig's family like friends, and guess what, he went back.

Lets face it - most people have been forced to eat at home for a while now and I bet a good portion of us can cook a tasty meal. I'm not a half bad cook, though kinda stuck on Americana and Italian cuisine. For us, restaurant fare is rarely better than home cooked. My wife and I like to go to a restaurant for the change of scenery, and time together. A nice place with decent drinks and friendly staff hit the right buttons.

My wife and I go out maybe once every two weeks or so, usually the Tuesday that our housekeeper comes into clean our house. Last night we went to a local Mexican place that just opened across from the high school. Due to this thread, I noticed they had a kid's menu. They also had a small note: "$1.50 added for adults".

Hence, that tells me that Deezler's explanation fits pretty good.

BTW, the place was excellent! Very good service, food was hot and came quickly. For those in SC TN, it's the Mexican place across from Lincoln County HS.

I know of one guy who brags as to how he grabs a handful of peanuts (and other foods) at Walmart as he passes those 'serve yourself' open containers.
I said handful, not using the scoops.
Never mind Covid, just thing other germs.
But he wears his mask!
He also refuses injections saying he won't let them inject germs into him.

Said I know him, not that he is a friend.

Oh, and I won't eat at public buffets either, just seen too many scary practices.

Our first restaurant in China was kinda dingy due to all of the smoking but it was popular with the people we were visiting. The place was packed with people.

We would walk by this place at least twice a day and on the sidewalk they had rabbits, chickens, and ducks, you would pick to eat. Just like a lobster in a tank. :ROFLMAO: I think they also server dog and cat but you had to ask. What I heard was that they used to have the dog and cats displayed like the other menu items but it upset the westerners walking by so they moved them. There was a wet market with dogs as a product...

Anyway, the food was good. We got chicken, pig and fish as I remember right. The head of the company we were visiting, a woman, had ordered and I could tell she was doing something a bit different. One of the things she ordered was a large pitcher that had a couple of gallons of tea and a basin.... I knew what she was doing and was thankful. :D;)

She took all of our chopsticks, put them in the basin and then poured the boiling hot tea in the basin. (y)

One of the items served with dinner was chicken. It was chicken breast that had been sliced to be easy to eat with chop sticks. Though the bone was left in so you had to eat around the bone. Twas very good. The chicken had been neatly sliced and arrayed nicely on the platter. Very well done. They had brought out the plate,I had to keep my mouth shut and I turned to watch my wife too see how long it took for her to notice what was on the nicely arranged chicken plate...

They had put the cook chicken head on the plate.:ROFLMAO::D:LOL: I thought it looked nice, but judging by the reaction of my wife, she did not share my thought. :ROFLMAO: The person we were with spoke rapidly in Cantonese and the head was quickly taken from the plate.

We ate at quite a few places in China, some very nice, some like this place, and many in between. Never had a bad meal or got sick. It was great food. We had take out every day for lunch from the "dingy" restaurant and it was never a problem. 😋

Later,
Dan

I have made numerous trips to China, and have eaten many items that I could not positively identify.
Everything tasted great.
Last trip I made was 21 years ago.
I am still alive!
