Brings back memorries of mad cow disease. There are certain things that are not worth eating.
Old Japanese cookbook titled.... 100 ways to Wok your dog............I have eaten at restaurants in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, S. Korea, Japan, and mainland Chinese cities.
Only rule I had was if it tasted good, I would eat it!
I am 80 and still alive!
I already told the story of live monkey brains in SE asia.Nope, not monkey brains,.....that I know of!

I have made numerous trips to China, and have eaten many items that I could not positively identify. Our first restaurant in China was kinda dingy due to all of the smoking but it was popular with the people we were visiting. The place was packed with people.
We would walk by this place at least twice a day and on the sidewalk they had rabbits, chickens, and ducks, you would pick to eat. Just like a lobster in a tank.![]()
I think they also server dog and cat but you had to ask. What I heard was that they used to have the dog and cats displayed like the other menu items but it upset the westerners walking by so they moved them. There was a wet market with dogs as a product...
Anyway, the food was good. We got chicken, pig and fish as I remember right. The head of the company we were visiting, a woman, had ordered and I could tell she was doing something a bit different. One of the things she ordered was a large pitcher that had a couple of gallons of tea and a basin.... I knew what she was doing and was thankful.
She took all of our chopsticks, put them in the basin and then poured the boiling hot tea in the basin.
One of the items served with dinner was chicken. It was chicken breast that had been sliced to be easy to eat with chop sticks. Though the bone was left in so you had to eat around the bone. Twas very good. The chicken had been neatly sliced and arrayed nicely on the platter. Very well done. They had brought out the plate,I had to keep my mouth shut and I turned to watch my wife too see how long it took for her to notice what was on the nicely arranged chicken plate...
They had put the cook chicken head on the plate.I thought it looked nice, but judging by the reaction of my wife, she did not share my thought.
The person we were with spoke rapidly in Cantonese and the head was quickly taken from the plate.
We ate at quite a few places in China, some very nice, some like this place, and many in between. Never had a bad meal or got sick. It was great food. We had take out every day for lunch from the "dingy" restaurant and it was never a problem.
