(computer question) Acceptable length of chords

Moved office and starting to decorate the new place.

I might need to put pc box on left wall with monitor on the right wall (opposite sides of room).

Can you run a monitor cable about 30'?

I'm looking to do this because I know you can't run a printer line (parallel) that far without some kind of issues coming up. So I figure if I move my pc over & hide it inside the cabinet, I can just run a monitor line around the room to my desk.

Any known issues?

I have no problem running my monitor mouse and keyboard with a 25 ft extension cable. Look for a product called a "KVM Extension Cable" This has the VGA and two PS/2 cables all built into one. I have seen (and used) these as long as 100' with no problems.

The only caveat is that PS/2 keyboard and mouse are easily extendable, but USB is not. You will have a maximum of about 15' if you want to extend USB (unless you buy powered hubs to act as repeaters)

I too have used what DaveNay is referring to. KVM Extension cables are run all over my workspace in my office. Some up to 50 feet.

How about a little twist to the equation:

Run your video to a big screen TV and get remote mouse and keyboard [and put a couch beside your desk or a footstool under it]. That way you can convince your wife that you're working out some heavy finances on Excel, then flip back to your favorite Western, Horror, shoot-em-up, or whatever other movie she hates. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually, even though my vid card is capable, I never done it myself....my office isn't remotely as large as yours. However, a friend was very pleased with this configuration right in his living room. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
