I had a previous post indicating that I was either going to purchase a 62" or 54" mmm. Thanks everyone for your feedback, it looks like I am leaning towards a 62" deck.

HOWEVER, I am noticing a number of threads indicating that many are experincing problems w/ this deck. Creating divots, scalping, not working well on uneven terrian etc. This deck is pretty expensive, I am kind of thinking I should hold off, continue using my rough cut mower (not as pretty but works fine) and push mower and just purchase a JD ride-on from Home Depot for mowing grass.

I am noticing quite a few people experiencing problems. For those of you that own a 62D and experiencing no problems at all, what are people doing wrong? What are you doing right so it does not scalp and create divots?

Also, will a 54D be less likely to scalp and cause divots???

Thanks for your feedback.

I don't think the 2305 takes the 62D (drive on deck). My 2305 has the 62C (you push it under the tractor) and I have no problems with it. You want the 62C it sticks outside the tractor farther so you can mow close to things. It does an excellent job mowing. By the way what is a push mower? Ha Ha. If you by another smaller riding mower it's just one more thing to maintain. Get the 62C and mow away.

The previous poster is correct. The 2305 takes the 62C (non drive on) deck. The problems you refer to (At least all the ones I see) are on the 62D deck.
The anti-scalp wheels on the 62C don't pivot, they are the 'semi ball' type and wide and will take some side thrust. I've never had a problem with them. Just keep them adjusted one adjustment above touching.

It's basically the same as the 54" deck (from what I understand) only bigger.

I just bought a CC with a 54'' deck last october for that purpose .
Using it and the BX23 60'' mmm cuts the mowing time for our 2.33 acres neary in half.

1*True but the benefits of having the CC Gt2554 in addition to my BX23 far out weigh the extra matainance in my case.
just one of those benefits is being able to mow my 2.33 acres in about half the time it took with the BX23 alone.

Ditto. I have a 60" mower for a very similar tractor and have had no problems with scalping and there is no way that you could talk me into a smaller deck. (easier to get close to trees and what not) I have very uneven ground and haven't had any problems with mine.

johnnydel29,

You'll have no problems with the 62C. :)

That works fine if you have 2 butts to put in the seats. I mow 1.5 acres with many obstacles and I cannot imagine the need of a second riding mower. Takes less than 2 hours now - I need *some* seat time.

Buy the 62C - it works great. I was amazed at how quiet it is on the 2305.

Every mower no matter what the size should extend at least 18'' out past the wheels on one side of the tractor.

1*That's about .75 acres per hour.
Tha's about 3.10 hours for my 2.33 acres with 1 mower or about 1.55 hours using the BX 23 and the CC 2554 at the same time.
2*I can when I have areas that I can't get to with the BX23.
Then too my wife can mow with the CC 2554 and I don't have to pull the BX23 off a project just to mow.
3*I'v got more seat time lined up than i can get to probably in the next 2 or 3 years.
4*rite go for the 62c.
In my case the 60'' mmm on the BX 23 is only about have the width of what I want need or use.
