putting vapor barrier under garage slab only. What the heck, it's only a couple dollars extra, in the big scheme of things.

Well, the finisher prices came in yesterday. Contractor a) $500.00 for pour, finish, seal each surface area ($1000.00 total). I provide concrete or he will, doesn't matter. Hand finish, whichever way I choose. quote, "don't pay until you're happy with the job." contractor b) $3500 regardless of finish. They provide concrete. contractor c) won't take job because site prep is done. Needless to say, contractor a, has been hired. And, he's available this Saturday weather permitting. Bonus for me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif FYI, locally concrete is running $93.00 per yard delivered.

Dunkirk and Faulkner used to be more similar. But you guys are definitely outpacing in the growth department. Very good friend lives not too far away in North beach. Prefer to think I have more time than money.

Congrats on your selection/pricing. That's a real good price.
Must be nice to live in an area you can actually find finishers. Around here it might take a month to actually get 3 quotes.

Concrete must be a bit cheaper around here. I'm thinking straight 4000# crete with weekday delivery and no fiber (or calcium or anything else) is in the low to mid $80's/yard. That price is giving us sticker price since just a few years ago it was in the $60's.

Just a side note, about the vapor barrier.
Because with it, the concrete will hold moisture longer and finishing will (may) take longer. Because of this, if you are not looking, the contractor workers may slit, slice, or knife the vapor barrier just before they pour. If me, I would be there when they pour.

Also, I don't let them broom the surface, even outside. They stop trowelling too soon when they broom, which doesn't leave a good finished surface layer. Also, I prefer to have the smooth surface, although because they want to broom, they will try to convince you it is the way to go, so it isn't slippery. I find the concrete not that slippery, easier to keep clean (broom the snow off and wash down with the hose), and it takes a good seal coat (unlike the broomed surface). Just a side comment.

That price is giving us sticker price since just a few years ago it was in the $60's. I hear ya, but a few years ago diesel wasn't more than regular either! Extra fuel prices can only be absorbed for a short duration, I think. Gravel delivery from the plant to me (~11 miles) was $82.50 which was $6.00 more than when they delivered my sand two weeks prior.

Of course. Someone has to be there to watch or it's not a real construction project, is it?

Also, I don't let them broom the surface, even outside. The jury is still sequestered on this issue. Wife sent me an email asking about concrete stamping for the apron. She has been super busy with work projects and hasn't told me what my "final answer" is yet /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif, but if she's still unavailable come pouring time....... I'm sorry, I tried to call,I must have just missed you and the crew needed an immediate answer (smooth trowel) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

dummy,

Congrats!!! Looks real good.
A couple questions/observations if you don't mind.
Looks like you went smooth inside, broom outside. Opted out on the exposed aggregate?
For where the garage goes, does the concrete have any pitch to allow water runoff? Which way does it go?
As best I can see from the pics, I see what looks like a single expansion joint going down the center of the driveway. Did they use zip-strip in remaining areas or are you going to saw it?
