Concrete or gravel under barn wings

In the winter things freeze into the gravel and big hunks come up when you move it. As soon as I get a permanent structure up I'm making everything concrete.

I for some reason dont think he will have this problem anywhere in florida!

Well, so far the closest "bad freeze" I've seen was when my youngest Basset Hound Phred, went running out in the play park before I had gotten to the water bucket. It was one of those classic moments when Dog smacked nose into frozen bucket, then backed up with a WTH look on his face. Other than that, it usually only freezes for a day or two at most and usually gets into at least the 40's during the day.

We did do relief cuts every twelve feet. Supposedly that will help "guide" the cracks that are likely to occur at the cuts. It is not unusual to have temps vary by 30-40 degrees or more from morning till evening.

Got the roof trusses up and some rain finally. The surrounding area had a 100 acre fire about a mile or so to my North and a 60 acre fire to my South. It has been waaay too smokey here, so the rain is a welcomed guest

Love to see trusses all lined up!!!!

It's hard to see, but what are you using across the tops of your posts to support the trusses and how are they attached?

I'm not sure if this is a correct answer or not- my part at this time is handme man (hand me this get me that ) But besides a bunch of temporary boards on the top of the trusses and down the center of the bottom of the trusses, they were attaching metal straps (see pix). I know they wanted to get more finished today, but the crane guy showed up 3 hours late, which put a crimp in the schedule.

Second pic shows what I was asking. Looks very impressive!!!!

Good week of work so far. All the concrete work is done, the roof is on, the side walls are framed and ready for windows and doors. Next week they deliver the windows, doors, and roll-ups. I am glad I went with all concrete. It is going to be easier to deal with the implements under the wings and for the dogs (the vet also said it will help with the hooves on my mini-pig, Elvis)

He is an absolute hoot. Follows you around better than my dogs (just keep Cheerios in my pocket), house broken ( won't mess in his kennel and uses a doggie training pad if he's on the porch with me), and loves his belly rubbed. Grand-daughter bathes him with J&J No tears with Oatmeal in it. AND he does sound like the Geico commercial when he wants your attention
