Condensation on my Cathedral Ceiling !!

No pics right now. I did check the insulation behind the T&G and it was fine.

I don't really think there is a moisture problem with my logs. they are kiln dried and look to be in very good shape. I re stained my house just last summer and didn't notice anything to be concerned with as far as moisture.

If the insulation is dry, then it's hard to see how it could be a roof leak. Probably just a combination of weather/temp/humidity changes and cooking moisture that resulted in the condensation. Is there a good vapor barrier between the T&G and the insulation?

I'm sure you will keep an eye on it to see if it happens again. I would monitor the situation just to make sure mold doesn't get started. Maybe run your ceiling fan on sticky days just to keep the circulation going.

Houses have quirks :)

Since you have no AC you do need some air movement maybe more than a ceiling fan or two. Moist air can condense on a cold surface. Typically the dewpoint temperature of the air is lower that the temperature of the surface to form condensation.
You may have to consider a dehumidifier or an AC unit running on low CFM to dry the air. Of coarse you can go overboard and have a reheat system that would cool the air so that moisture would condense on the cooling coil than reheat the air for comfort.

Thanks for all the replies.

I do have a ceiling fan in every room of the house. When I built it I knew I wouldn't need A/C up on the mountain so I went with the fans instead.. I have left the one on in the living room run 24/7 and I haven't had a problem since, and is was super humid yesterday.

I dot not have a vapor barrier between the T&G and the insulation . Unless you count the paper backing that is on the insulation.

To be quite honest, I wasn't trying to help you with your moisture problem:D, I just wanted feedback on what company you used and to see that actual house.... I am going to build one (hopefully sometime in the next few years) and for some reason I am stuck on "southland"

I used a company called "Oldtimer" they are pretty much a saw mill that specializes in kiln dried logs for log homes down in Tn. . Other than that everything else was subbed out to local contractors. Check your PM's ..

A vapor barrier wouldn't stop condensation from forming on the ceiling, it would prevent moist vapor from 'migrating' through the T&G and into the insulation. When the vapor has moved into the insulation far enough to encounter colder temps (dew point), that is where the moisture will condense out of the vapor. That can ruin the insulation of course. Generally, interior home air being warm carries enough moisture for this to happen in cold weather.

I would think this is only an issue in winter. Not an insulation expert, but the paper-faced type is probably providing some vapor barrier for you. I don't think it is anywhere near as airtight as a plastic barrier.

For your climate, this may not be an issue.
