Two dealers in my area both used the HYTRAN brand in the Cubs/Mitsubishi models. Both of them sold various pieces of farm or construction equipment so I assume they probably used the HYTRAN in most of it. One of them has since dropped Cubs after a number of years and focuses on heavy equipment not CUTs. When I did my 200 hour service, I did a lot of checking and finally figured that using the HYTRAN brand made since. I use it in the axle as well as the hyd. system. The price was about average with other oils and it had a proven quality.

Let's see, I am going to try this and I not sure axactlly, but according to tractor manufacures, that the Transmission/Hydraulic oil made today has better lubricating properties than the old 90 wt gear oil, because of the additives that have been developed over the years. When there were no additives they left the old thick to get it to stick to the gears, now they have additives that cause the oil to stick and create a film. Even larger farm tractors are using tran/hyd. in the front axle.

I think they aren't being brand specific, but are merely saying to use the same hydraulic-transmission fluid you use in the front axle just as you do the tranny and hydraulic system.

When I was referring to HYTRAN I thought I had been specific but I realize I wasn't. The HY-Tran I referred to is actually made by IH Case. I don't completely remember the connection I found but when I researched it 2-3 years ago I found what I thought was a distinct connection between the Cub Cadet Hydraulic Oils and the IH Case brand. When I found that and that two Cub dealers sold Case Equipment, I figured the Case Hy-Tran was a good bet. I think you are safe with any quality fluid, Valvoline, NAPA, Kubota, etc. Many now have it in synthetic as well but is normally pricer than the standard fluids. Very likely the stuff Wally World sells comes from one of the major manufacturers and is probably just as good.

Just wondering if we've been using the right stuff. We use Penzoil brand and I believe it's called Hydra Trans.

jwcinpk: If you are still ridin' that 6000? I believe the specs are different for the 00 series, in relation to the TYM/Mitshu tractors. BobG in VA

I've been slammed busy and have not been able to reply. A "Thank You" is in order for all that responded. Since I went ahead and performed the service before everybody replied I went with the 85W140 oil. The best I can reckon from all the answers is that the trans/hydraulic type fluid may be the preferred fluid but either is OK. No snap crackle and pop noises from recent use so...... 426DMB
