Confused....Underground Spring?

How fortunate you are to have a spring. I would strongly consider digging out the area large enough to place a section of 2' or 3' concrete culvert pipe in the hole with a 4" discharge line out through the side of the culvert pipe and run that discharge line off to grade or even a pond or storage tank. Place a concrete lid or metal grate over the culvert. It's a bit of work but having a free source of water is a real blessing, especially when you are watering a garden or lawn. I think, without a doubt, you have a wet weather spring that comes and goes depending on the water table. Good luck, I hope your spring gives you plenty of good free water. Let us know how it works out.

That is all you really can do. I used to own a house with a spring under it. For years before I got it, people tried everything in the world to stop it. I just gave it someplace to go and it took care of it.

I built a "spring box" that was about 2 foot square and about a foot deep filled with gravel, then ran a drain off it out from under the house and down the hill.

But, in my case, I knew where it was.

WV, how did you run the pipe under the house?

Met the dozer guy out there again this morning, and his theory is there was an underground spring that ran like a stream under the ground and when they dug and filled the electric and water lines they disrupted that stream, blocked it, and the least resistance was up. Don't know how plausible that is but sounds good to me.

Anyway French drain going in shortly.

Good thought on the free water, can't do anything like that in the near future but something I'll keep in mind.

We have several springs up at Hardy ,ark. They change with the summer heat, and we have one in a large pond. It is nice to swim over it in the summer and cool off...You probably will enjoy the free water, just do not drink any until it tests good. Bat guana is in a lot of it there..JY.

WV, how did you run the pipe under the house?

It was on a hillside, so the uphill edge of the house was on the ground, the rest was up on stilts. Basically, had a big, sloped crawlspace.

Hey! Haven't you guys in Arkansas had some earth quakes lately? . . . Sorry:eek: I'm no help at all.

My experience with springs is that if you have them, they will always be there. I can take you to a section of Interstate 35E in Denton, TX and show you a wet spot in a median that stays wet and green no matter how bad a drought we are having. Before they built the Interstate Hwy, that spot had been in the middle of an old farm pond that was filled in. Some folks have told me of accidently closing springs up, but my experience is that a good one will flow for as long as there is a water table and underground aquifer to support it.

Luckily I'm about 40 miles south of the quakes and haven't felt any. Some did say they felt something when they the 4.3 one a few weeks back.

French drain is on so we will see how it works.
