Snow Conn Power Outages

Except most places in California are not 5 degrees.

OK I understand that you got snow an some wind. Did that take down the power lines or was the system overloaded caused blackouts ?

If they part of the PJM transmission organization it may be a controlled blackout. Ohio is PJM and we just got the heads up earlier that they were possible.

We got a notification from AEP Ohio to reduce power usage and that load shedding may need to occur to protect the grid. My niece lives in a little town in Logan county and half the town is out because of load management. Bad time to be without power.

I would never trust just electric for heat. Never. Always have a non electric backup that could sustain you at least a week. Even better a month.

OK I don't know how the electricity in your area is being generated, but if it's like a lot of other cities and states, a lot of it is "supposed" to be generated by wind and solar. If you have high winds and it's night time, and it's cold, the wind generators are shut down and of course there is no sun. So much for the "renewable" energy. It just doesn't work.

That is because PG&E is more concerned on paying dividends on their stocks then putting utility payer's monies back into the system.... But dark is dark and cold is cold...

Coal and Nuclear primarily with some Hydro, Solar and Wind for PJM.

There should be extra capacity available since many heavy industries shut down for the holiday such as steel mills and aluminum smelters

Patheticut has a piss poor infrastructure. Especially for the amount of taxes they pay.

I guess too many electric vehicles and smoothie machines overloaded the system.

What was the cause of the outage ?

60 Mile per Hour wind and heavy rain. No snow
