7500 HST - Kubota
Can anyone give me some real advise hear? I'm looking for an all around utility tractor, finish mowing, brush hogging, rear tiller, and grader blade. How does Yanmar stand up to the newer kubota B7500s? I have been look for some time now at the orange ones but am interested in an older yanmar but have little personal experience to compare it to. Please advise.

The Yanmars hold up quite well. I've had a few of them and have only had a couple of very minor issues(seals). The biggest factor in buying a Yanmar is a reputable dealer, one that can provide parts support. With the Yanmar you'll have enough money left over to buy some implements.

Just keep in mind that parts can be a factor........but there are so many dealers here that will help out when needed. I have one and can't be happier. I do get a little jealous when I see someone here get a NEW tractor, but then I go out in the barn and see my $3000 Yanmar and all the "toys" I was able to get with the leftover money. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif........Says it all for me.
Oh yeah, and in 2 years I've replaced a seal and a friction disc. Total cost ......$5 or so.

I bought a yanmar a year and a half ago. I bought a model that had a welded block so the dealer cut the price. I have a bit of mechanical ability so I was not worried. I ended up needing to replace the head gasket and a dealer on this board was able to get me the parts I needed. The tractor was straight foward for me to work on. I am very pleased with the tractor. I mow, till, plow snow, move firewood and landscape with it. It also serves as a small crane for me to lift things into my pickup. I've put over 100 hours on it in the last year. I would recommend a yanmar especially with the savings over the newer compact models

Most of the people on this board have Yanmars and so you are unlikely to find people who prefer the Kubota here. The benefits of the Yanmars is the price. They seem well made and durable. If cost is a difference, buy one of the more common yanmars and get implements and still save. Avoid rebuilt tractors as it it hard to know what exactly was done. If a good rebuild was done, it may be a good machine, if it was just painted then it wasn't rebuilt. Its just hard to tell the difference.
A used tractor is just that, used. It is more likely to break and has a somewhat unknow past. On the other hand, they are relatively durable, and not very hard to work on. Parts don't seem to be much of a problem, although there do seem to be some rumbles that yanmar is trying to cut off parts (due to lawsuits) so you might have to get parts directly from japan. Filters etc have crossovers to local auto parts so you can buy them locally.

A new tractor is new, it has a warranty, and a price tag to go with it. If money is no matter, buy the new tractor, but you'll end up 10k in the hole for very few additional features.

Finally, with most of the grey market tractors, you will not get some of the safety gear that is standard on a new tractor--No ROPS, no seat belt, and no pto sheild. The throttle moves the other direction.

So depending on your situation a yanmar may be better or a kubota. If you are rich or can sell your first born buy new, otherwise you will probably be almost as happy with a used yanmar.
