The spark arrestors cause a multitude of performance issues.

My trimmers are all used in the Spring before everything turns tinder dry...

The one in the old Echo has a big hole in the middle of the screen from years of use/exposure.

There is a big cone shaped one in the end of the muffler on the Yamaha Inverter Genny I have. It got to running ragged so I had to pull it and clean it (wanted to toss it) but I use it when camping so I thought it better not to. I soaked it in Berryman's Chem Tool and that dissolved the carbon build up. Runs good now.

It can also happen when dirt-dauber hornets build nests in the muffler.

I once got a new muffler at a flea market. Put it on a newly rebuilt lawnmower and the thing wouldn't crank. There was no hole in the muffler.

Nope. It was solid steel. If I ever buy another flea market muffler, I'll check for a hole first.
