I was doing some heavy bush hogging yesterday with my YM2500 at the camp. I cut the sides of the road and my food plot. It was about 2.5 hours of cutting. Everything went well (I thought).... until I got home.

I always check my equipment out before and after a job task. I parked the tractor under the shed and walked around it. I saw oil ALL over the lift housing and on top of the axle housings. I went straight to the control valve. Thats where it was coming from. The little "wiper/dust" seal was pushed all the way out.

I called my dealer yesterday evening. The owner wasn't in, but the mechanic said to call back Monday. I even mentioned trading the tractor in on a YM3000. He has one left as of right now. I've only put 35 hours on it since I bought it. All I would like to do is give them the YM2500 back and pay the difference (like $200.00) on a YM3000. They are nice people to deal with so I hope everything goes well.

What do you guys/gals think?

Is parts availibility good for a YM3000?

I don't think the fabric dust seals actually retain hydraulic pressure. The seal behind that is probably damaged.

If the YM2500 has met all of your expectations and there are no other problems then fix it. Can't see swapping out tractors for one small, but nagging problem. Repair it just to eliminate the possibility that it was a fluke.

Yes, the YM2500 HAS met all of my needs (except it definitely not showing any favoritism towards my 6' blade). One thing that I am concerned about though is the horsepower.

I just got a job working full-time for the Louisiana DOTD (which I did not know I was getting Before I bought my YM2500). We work 4/10hr days, which means I am off every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So, I plan on hooking up with my buddy who does bush hogging pretty much full-time. He has a 43 hp 4WD Kubota. I know I won't be able to keep up with him- and won't even try to, but I am in doubt that my YM2500 can handle all that cutting on Fridays and sometimes Saturdays. Also, thats the same tractor that I use to keep up our place and my grandmother's place.

And as for the control valve, yes- it is VERY nagging. This has gotten ridiculous. It now seems as there is no end to solving the problem. The 'new' one that the dealer put on my tractor must have been (assuming) re-built or an aftermarket one. Has anyone had any problems with the after-market control valve? If it is up to me, and hopefully it is this time, I would put the genuine OEM Yanmar control valve on there.

You will have to use loctite on the seal on the aftermarket valve, the oem valve is no longer available.

I took the control valve off yesterday, and sure enough the o-ring at the base of the valve had a descent size cut in it. I ordered the $0.83 cent o-ring w/ gasket, and clevis pin, and seat bracket from Fredrick's. It all should be here tomorrow. Again, the shipping cost more than the parts!!

I'll put it back together when I get the parts put on and post back.

You are correct. The moderators either don't like us talking about that particular dealer or the discussion of the UTDA, a non profit organization. It is their website and while they don't owe us an explanation, it would be nice to know why they did it so if it was a prohibited action we won't repeat it.

How about an individual was bashing an alleged, but un-named, UTDA dealer, with no documentation, not even an effort to present facts. Just a low shot at an organization that makes no claim to document quality anyway....UTDA only confirms safety standards. Bynet regulations are clear about dealer-bashing.....most of us just don't read them thoroughly (self included...I already sent an apology to the moderator regarding another thread where I was encouraging what would have been a rules violation).

I think the moderator did the right thing in pulling the post.

Good point LMTC.

Yes, one of the moderators sent me a PM. I was talking about the UTDA Dealer that I bought my tractor from (here in LA) and how he isn't working with me on my hydraulic problems any longer. (Go back and re-read my posts when I first bought my YM2500). I was NOT talking about the Used Tractor Dealer's Association in general. I think it is an Extremely good association who sells quality tractors, with honest dealers, Including you Wayne.:)

The facts:

I bought the tractor from the dealer. The Very first day I had it the control valve was leaking. Brought it back 3 or 4 weekends in a row for the Same problem! Thought it was somewhat fixed this last go-around, but now I can't even use my tractor. Blowing hydraulic oil everywhere. From where? Yep. The control valve.

The dealer I bought my tractor from will not get my money again. I will not say who, but I am not the only one who has dealt with this dealer (bad experiences).

The Standards

All Dealers who belong to UTDA have agreed to meet the standards adopted by UTDA. The UTDA standards can be reviewed from the UTDA for Buyers page. UTDA certification of tractors began 9/1/2006. From that point there will be a UTDA certification decal on each unit sold for which UTDA has current standards. It is important for the consumer to understand that the UTDA certification applies solely to the specific standards adopted by UTDA. Any used item should always be examined by the potential buyer to determine that it satisfactorily meets the buyers needs.



The Advantages for the Consumer

You can shop any UTDA member knowing these standards are in place.
You know that there is a nationwide association of dealers prepared to support your machine.
You know that your dealer has access to the largest organized parts and service network for these tractors in the U.S.
You know that your dealer cares enough about his/her customers to belong to a professional trade organization with a confirmed commitment to safety and service standards for their used tractors.
Who else can offer you this? Why would you buy a used Japanese compact tractor from anyone but a UTDA member?
